“RUB AGAINST ME AND I’LL EXPOSE YOU” Is Real DC Metro Campaign
A new DC Metro ad campaign arrived today to combat the very real problem of sexual harassment with a tagline practically ripped from late night 900 number ad dialogue. ”Rub against me and I’ll expose you” sounds so decidedly porno-licious that the next line in this script must be “Or I won’t validate your bus transfer, you filthy minx”.
Lest we forget who’s in charge, a reminder of the hearing that helped bring about the campaign last February:
Sitting in the back of the room, the contrast between WMATA’s representatives and the women testifying on behalf of Collective Action For Safe Spacescouldn’t be more apparent. The CASS testimony came from young women—who tend to be primary targets for sexual harassment. The people defending Metro were middle-aged (and older) men like Taborn and WMATA General Manager Richard Sarles. Spokesperson Dan Stessel—another man—took it there, too, telling WUSA9, “One person’s harassment is another person’s flirting.”
Emphasis is ours.
And blessed is the ad photo, showing a tall, handsome gay commuter, helpless to avoid the harassment of a wanton harlot attempting to drop it low and rub all up in his business during a rush hour commute. That is the message, right?
The award-winning campaign was created by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (Boston T), who agreed to license the campaign materials to Metro at no cost.
Did WMATA still somehow pay too much?
